Ideas For Landscaping Around Pools

By Darren Hartley

The primary concerns in landscaping around pools are privacy, safety, beauty and convenience. Beauty and privacy around a swimming pool are provided by plants. They soften the harsh lines of swimming pool equipment and help swimming pools blend more naturally with the surrounding environment.

Privacy screens can be put up around the pool area by growing plants that are tall enough to cover it from eavesdroppers. This particular technique for safe landscaping around pools necessitates the choice of low maintenance plants. Imagine the need to fish out leaves from the pool day in and day out should you mistakenly surround the pool with large deciduous trees.

As far as landscaping around pools are concerned, broadleaf evergreens such as hollies are good options. Fruit trees are not only messy, they form an attraction to bees as well. The same is true with beautiful flowers. Plants with invasive root systems damage a pool over time.

Little children have an additional impact to the safety concerns regarding landscaping around pools. In their presence, fencing and outdoor lighting around the pool become requirements and not just options. However, fencing done right provides additional privacy to the area. To further enhance this benefit from fencing, vines may be trained to grow over the fence.

Picture yourself climbing out of the swimming pool. Wouldn't it be better if you had a slip-resistant surface to land your feet into? This safe convenience is what a scarred concrete patio provides. Other than safety, patios or pool decks also provide a solution to the beauty aspect of landscaping around pools. If you prefer a brick patio over a concrete one, you just have to make sure the surface is rough enough for the bricks.

A closed gazebo is another option when thinking landscaping around pools. As a matter of fact, nothing beats it as far as convenience around pools is concerned. Changing in and out of swimsuits and clothes becomes a breeze, not to mention relaxing in its shade. To add more convenience to the pool area, you can opt for outdoor furniture and furnaces as well as barbecue equipment.
