Choosing The Right Wild Bird Feeders For Sale

By Lisa Williamson

People often like to feed birds in their garden. Often this can be relaxing in and of itself. For some people it allows them to see rare species they would not necessarily be able to see out and about in the city. Equally feeding birds is important because some do not migrate in the winter months and may struggle to find food. This is why you should find the right wild bird feeders for sale.

There are various types available. What you choose depends on a number of factors. As with any purchase your budget and price range will be an issue. However there are also issue in terms of the kind of birds you are going to attract and the ones you do or do not wish to attract.

Platform based ones are perfect if you want to get a crowd of varied species. In this case there is the benefit of keeping it simple. All you need to do is spread food on the base and around the platform. The disadvantage of this method is that there is less control so if you do not want larger species overcoming smaller ones you may want to try other methods.

An alternative is to get a mesh feeder. These have holes in them so only certain species can get at the food. These are designed for species that naturally peck at food in the wild and therefore have the right technique in order to extract food from the holes in the mesh. Generally these will contain seeds and fat that these kinds of bird like.

The reason why this is the case is because some species peck at the food. Not all birds do this and therefore it means only certain species will be able to access the food. There is also the consideration of the kind of food they eat. For example some prefer seeds while others prefer fat or dried fruit.

There is also the issue of size. One that is too small could get potentially damaged in high winds. However one that is too large may not hang very easily. Therefore you have to consider what is right for your garden. Materials are also important. While people often like wood due to its natural look there is the issue of wear and tear.

A metal feeder is more durable. However the difficulty with metal feeders aside from the fact they are less aesthetically pleasing than wooden items is that they can get very hot if placed in direct sunlight. Therefore if you do get a metal feeder it is best to keep it in the shade in order to stop it from getting excessively hot.

You can find numerous wild bird feeders online. It is best to check as many different websites as possible. As well as comparing companies and private sellers it is also worth looking for feedback from people who have purchased feeders in the past. This will allow you to get one that is best suited to your garden and the birds that you want to attract.
