Locate A Expert Electrical Contractor For Optimal Effect

By Kristina Riggs

Many people wish to be electrical contractors. For one to become an electrical contractor it will be hard work and not for the lazy. You will need to have a drive and a good understanding of how everything works. It can take a few years of training but in the end it will be well worth all those long study hours.

There are three different types of contractors. The first one is a "line contractor". He works with distribution lines and well as high voltage power. Their main job is to maintain the system that transports the electricity as well as building the same system. This power is generated at a power plant before being distributed to homes and businesses.

You will need at least 5 years experience as a journeyman. This means that you will need to have a Class B license that states you are able to do repairs, maintaining wires, conduits, fixtures and installations for lights and security systems. Include the college or trade school certificate that you attended as well as a clearance letter from the Bureau of Internal Revenue. A cheque with the correct amount needs to be forwarded as well.

A linesman can also install TV cables as well as telephones. They will spend most of the day outdoors, either in the sun or in the cold. They are always working with live power lines so for their protection when doing this they have to be above ground. They are issued special conductive clothing as they will need to be connected to the live power line. If they happen to handle both ends of a broken conductor line, there is a good chance of getting electrocuted.

Working overtime could be a disadvantage for this specific job. The places he will be required to work in will be dirty, dusty and very noisy. If one is claustrophobic, this is not the job for you. It will require a lot of problem solving as well as having to work with ones hands all the time. The engineering electrician will deal with the study of electricity, electronics as well as electromagnetism. He will need to have done electrical and electronic engineering and have obtained a degree in both. To be able to design electronic circuits as well as digital will be a necessity.

To be qualified to attend a college that offers electrical, one will need to have good eyesight and not be colorblind. You must be able to communicate clearly and have good eye hand co-ordination. This will be an asset as you will be working with tools day in and day out. One will need to have a certificate stating that you have passed mathematics and physical science. There are multiple levels that will need to be written. In order to get three national certificates during the year, registration dates are in January, April and again in August.

All electricity comes from a building that generates electrical power. This is referred to as a power plant. A generator in the middle of a rotating machine will produce electrical power. They normally burn oil or fossil fuel.

One will always need a contractor, so why not chose this as your profession. Working outside can be a great advantage as well as being able to use ones hands. If you are good with math and science why not give it a go.
