Locating Good New Jersey Flooring

By Gwen Lowe

One of the best ways of updating a home is to add a new floor. With so many great options to choose from the biggest question is which one to choose. There is a wonderful selection of tiles and wood to consider. They are available in a great variety ranging from inexpensive linoleum to solid oak hard woods. When it comes to a great investment for a property New Jersey flooring is hard to beat.

At the lower end of the scale are the traditional choices such as linoleum and carpet. These provide a nice option for those who only have a limited budget or may be in a hurry. Installation is another important factor to consider and when time is a factor it may be a good idea to go with one of the easier options. The new style linoleum looks great and is the perfect covering for a laundry room or high traffic entry way.

Preparation is the most important factor in the overall success of the project. It does take some time and work but trying to rush through the preparation stage usually results in a less than perfect job. The removal of the old floor covering is typically the easy part. If the room is fairly large or several rooms are having the flooring removed it may be a good idea to hire a dumpster. It is quite surprising just how much debris there is likely to be.

Ceramic tiles are an excellent option especially for kitchens and bathrooms. There are some beautiful colors and styles available at very reasonable prices. One of the best places to buy tile is at one of the large home improvement stores. They often offer classes in how to install tile, making this a project just about anyone can tackle.

Engineered hardwoods are an interesting combination of products. A thin layer of real wood is fixed to a laminate sub floor base. This gives the look and feel of real wood at a fraction of the cost. They are often used over radiant in floor heating systems as they are easy to glue to the concrete base. Engineered hardwoods are an excellent choice as they last for many years and look great.

Anyone who suffers from allergies may want to think about getting rid of carpets in their home and putting down wood floors, either laminate or hard wood. These do not trap dust and pet dander, making them much more practical. They are very easy to keep clean and just need a quick vacuum and damp mopping to keep them looking great.

Solid wood floors are at the top of the price range. Oak is a beautiful wood that can be stained to any number of shades. Several coats of varnish are then added to keep everything looking great for years. If existing floors are seriously scratched or damaged it may be worth having them refinished if they are of sufficiently good quality wood.

Laminate floors are now becoming more popular. They provide a low cost alternative to real wood. Laminates are available in many shades. The lighter colors are typically more popular as they give any room a light and airy feeling. In addition practically any paint colors will coordinate with them nicely.
